DIRK BAK

Fall 2003 B.I.S. graduate with areas of concentration in Communication Studies, Economic Studies, and Management

WHAT HE'S DOING NOW…

I started a company two years ago: Corporate Facilities Management, Inc.  My BIS degree gave me the tools to market the company, build the company, and get it cash-flowing within the first six months. Currently, I am serving as President and to date our company has done over a million dollars in revenue. Due to the communication skills derived from my BIS program I was able to help close a large media account: Fox News. We hope to be at the 5 million dollar mark with in the next two years.  Check out our website:  www.corpfm.com

On another note, I have been a part of several real estate transactions over the last couple of years.  Again the BIS degree has aided in this process.

I also completed my first year in Law School at Concord Law School.  I am focusing on corporate law.

HIS THOUGHTS ON B.I.S….

The areas I concentrated in helped me develop the skill set that I needed to effectively lead, communicate, plan, and organize in my professions. I have had the opportunities to meet many key people who have also helped teach me the skills needed to be successful.

The B.I.S. program let me carefully select the classes that would best help prepare me for my profession.  What is great about the program is the ability to take core classes in other departments and to develop one's own college curriculum.

ADVICE…

The University can be overwhelming with options of what to study. It is important for individuals to figure out what their strengths are, what their weaknesses are, and then to capitalize on the one and develop the other.
